Apply to become an engineer

INSA Rouen Normandie admits quality candidates at various levels: Bac or international equivalent, Bac+1, +2, +3, +4, and continuing education. Our students enter the school through a competitive entrance examination based on qualifications, applications and a possible interview.

 

General baccalaureate = high school diploma

BACcalaureate + number à refers to the number of years of higher education or training completed after finishing high school

BAC +1 = one-year undergraduate course study

BAC+2 = two-year undergraduate course study

BAC+3 = 3-year undergraduate course study (equivalent to a bachelor’s degree)

BAC +4 = 4-year undergraduate course study

Applying to enter as a 1st, 2nd or 3rd year student (excluding apprenticeships)

Application process for the competitive entrance exam on the web only http://www.parcoursup.fr/ and admission.groupe-insa.fr for foreign baccalaureates.

  • Common recruitment for the 7 INSA and partner schools with a baccalaureate.
  • Specific recruitment for STI (science and industrial technologies) and STL (sciences and laboratory technologies) baccalaureates (in Lyon and Toulouse for certain STI baccalaureates).

For its engineering curriculum, the INSA Group aims to recruit a wide range of scientific profiles. To guarantee the best chances of adapting to and succeeding in this curriculum, whatever the school, high school students must have solid mathematical skills acquired in 1st and 12th grade, which they must complement with skills in the physical sciences or engineering sciences, as well as an openness to another discipline, whether scientific or not. These skills must be complemented by a good command of French and languages.

  • first year of a scientific bachelor's degree (60 ECTS validated),
  • first year of a scientific preparatory class (60 ECTS validated),
  • first year of engineering school preparatory cycle (60 ECTS validated).

  • Recruitment via the national SCEI portal
  • As many wishes as are compatible with the CPGE pathway.

  • Applicants must have a DUT, BUT2, BUT3, L2, L3, BTS or recognized equivalent, after 2 years of engineering school preparatory courses. (for DUT, BUT2, BUT3 and BTS, it is important to check that your diploma is compatible with your chosen specialization).

Your application file must contain: Grades and assessments obtained during these courses, cover letter. An interview may be requested. 

Applying for apprenticeships

Who can apply?

Applicants for apprenticeship programs must meet the following criteria:

  • be under 30 years of age at the start of the course,
  • have the skills needed to successfully complete the engineering apprenticeship,
  • demonstrate motivation in line with the principles of apprenticeship training,
  • the host company's sector of activity, if the candidate already has one, must be relevant to the training.

For the energy performance (energy engineering) specialization (course description)

The specialization is open to students holding one of the following diplomas:

  • DUT/BUT2/BUT3: Thermal and Energy Engineering, Energy Transition and Efficiency, Physical Measurement, Civil Engineering
  • Classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles, prépa ATS
  • L2 / L3
  • Professional licenses: Energy management, standards and industrial processes, Energy management and renewable energies, Building metrology, diagnostics and energy control, Energy efficiency and renewable energies, Positive-energy building and wood construction, High-performance energy buildings
  • Other French and foreign diplomas or courses at the same level, whose targeted skills are compatible with the training.
  • BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur) students cannot enter this specialization directly. However, if they have completed one year of ATS (Adaptation technician supérieur) preparatory course, they can apply for this specialization.

For the Industrial Performance and Innovation (Industrial Engineering) specialization (course description)

This specialization is open to students holding one of the following diplomas:

  • DUT/BUT2/BUT3: Physical measurements, Mechanical and production engineering, Industrial engineering and maintenance
  • Classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles, ATS preparatory classes
  • L2 / L3
  • Professional licenses: Industrial professions (mechanics, design, production, industrial processes, etc.), Maintenance of industrial, production and energy systems, Maintenance and technology: industrial control
  • Other French and foreign diplomas or courses at the same level, whose targeted skills are compatible with the training.
  • BTS students cannot enter this specialization directly. However, if they have taken one year of ATS, they can apply for this specialization.

For the Performance in Process Innovation and Safety (Process Engineering) specialization (course description)

This specialization is open to students holding one of the following diplomas:

  • DUT/BUT2/BUT3: Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Physical Measurements, Environmental Health and Safety, Chemistry
  • Classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles, ATS preparatory classes
  • L2 / L3
  • Professional licenses: oriented towards process engineering and/or chemistry, accompanied by work experience in the form of an internship in the sector
  • Other French and foreign diplomas or courses at the same level, with skills compatible with the course.
  • BTS students cannot enter this specialization directly. However, if they have taken a year of ATS, they can apply for this specialization.

For the industrial digital performance (industrial IT) specialization (course description)

This specialization is open to students holding one of the following diplomas:

  • DUT/BUT2/BUT3: Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing, Industrial Engineering and Maintenance, Mechanical and Production Engineering, Networks and Telecommunications, Computer Science
  • Integrated preparatory cycles: Mathematics and physics, Physics technology, Physics and engineering sciences, ATS prep
  • L2 / L3
  • BTS: Systems maintenance, Design and production of automatic systems, IT services for organizations, Digital systems, Fluids-energy-domotics
  • Other French and foreign diplomas or courses at the same level, whose targeted skills are compatible with the training course

How to apply?

Application calendar

Phase 1

The first round of applications is from January 22, 2024 to March 28, 2024.

If your application is shortlisted during the first round, you will be invited to an interview on:

  • April 17 or 18, 2024 for the Energy Performance, Industrial Performance and Innovation and Performance in Process Innovation and Safety specialties
  • April 17, 2024 for the Digital Industrial Performance specialization (face-to-face interview at the Campus de l'Espace in Vernon).

Phase 2 (subject to confirmation)

The second round of applications is from April 29th to May 30, 2024 (subject to confirmation).

If your application is shortlisted for this second session, you will be invited to an interview on:

  • June 13, 2024 for all specialties

It will not be possible to apply at each round for the same program.

Final admission is conditional on signing an apprenticeship contract.

Start of the academic year 2024-2025 is in September.
