Training description

Program Overview

This is a three-year apprenticeship program alternating between the host company and INSA Rouen Normandie. The rhythm of alternation varies throughout the program.

During the first two years, courses are organized into six academic periods per year, each lasting an average of 4 to 5 weeks.

In the final year, students complete two academic sessions of 5 weeks, while the last semester is fully dedicated to a final-year project carried out within the host company.

Apprentices are employees of their host company, where they are supervised by a company mentor. At INSA Rouen Normandie, each apprentice is also supported by an academic tutor.

The professional skill development objectives are jointly defined by the company mentor and the academic tutor, focusing on the apprentice’s ability to:

  • Apply the knowledge acquired at INSA in a professional context
  • Work independently
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Lead and coordinate a team to carry out a project

Apprenticeship Contract

An apprenticeship contract is signed between the student, the host company, and the CFA INSA Rouen Normandie.

This is a work contract, granting the apprentice the status and rights of a regular employee within the company.

The apprentice receives a salary paid by the company, which varies depending on the apprentice’s age and seniority within the contract.

Admission Requirements

This apprenticeship program is open to students who have completed two years of higher education (BAC +2) and hold one of the following qualifications:

  • DUT: Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Physical Measurements, Health, Safety & Environment, Chemistry
  • ATS Preparatory Classes
  • Undergraduate studies (L2/L3)
  • Professional Bachelor’s Degrees: focused on Process Engineering and/or Chemistry, ideally including an internship or professional experience in the field
  • Other French or international degrees at an equivalent level, provided the candidate’s background and skills align with the program requirements

⚠️ Note: Students with a BTS diploma (quite equivalent for HND) cannot directly access this specialty. However, candidates who have completed an ATS year are eligible to apply.

Admission Process

Applications are reviewed based on academic background, professional motivation, and compatibility with the apprenticeship format. Selection includes evaluation of academic records and an interview.

Career Opportunities

Graduates pursue careers in the design, operation, and optimization of industrial processes, as well as in health, safety, environmental management, or research and development. They work in various sectors, including:

  • Chemicals and materials
  • Energy
  • Risk management and safety engineering
  • Consulting, research, and development services
