research engineers Statistics and Generative AI

As part of the I-DEMO Pokaiok IIoT project led by the company BUAWEI, located in Lille (59), the Laboratory of Mathematics of INSA Rouen Normandie (UR 3226, FR CNRS 3335) is recruiting a Research Engineers (IR).

The Pokaiok system developed by Buawei (Lille) consists of the hardware and software implementation of a visual analysis method for assemblies on production lines.

The LMI, directed by Prof. Nicolas Forcadel, includes about 40 members divided into two research teams. Its main research areas are modeling, numerical simulation, and optimization.
• Numerical Analysis, Imaging and Approximation (AN-IA) Topics include image processing (registration, segmentation, restoration, applications in Geosciences and Medicine), hybrid methods (deep learning and variational methods) in imaging, data approximation (wind fields, pressure, ocean currents, etc.), shape optimization for 3D printing, wave propagation problems, PDE modeling, and numerical simulation across various applications (energy, coastal morphodynamics, 3D printing, and more).
• Control, Optimization and Probability-Statistics (COPS) Topics include statistics for data science, optimization and optimal control, homogenization of nonlinear Hamilton–Jacobi equations, nonlinear PDEs with nonlocal terms, inverse problems, control theory, network optimization, nonconvex optimization (local/global methods), PDEs on graphs and networks, stochastic control and homogenization, AI and statistics for large-scale data analysis.

Engineering degree or Master’s in computer science or applied mathematics. Experience in AI, especially in computer vision and image processing for anomaly detection.

Expected work: Real-time anomaly detection using advanced and optimized methods.
• Literature review (image processing, deep learning, vision-language models, diffusion models, etc.).
• Generative AI for creating reliable models from limited data; development of automated and interactive pipelines.
• AI and image processing for anomaly detection: data acquisition (dataset creation and validation), segmentation of realistic data (noise, occlusion, variability, etc.).
• Optimization of hardware resources (CPU, RAM, accelerators, etc.).
• Robustness studies, testing, and performance comparisons.
The hired person may also contribute to methodological development for integration into the commercial Pokaiok system (digital twin, development, and pre-industrialization).
